From flat-pack to Oeko-tex: Where to find nursery and kids' furniture in Luxembourg (2024)

Whether you're looking for practical items or something whimsical for the nursery, there's a range of options in and around the Grand Duchy.

Oh hello, dear expecting parents! If this is your first go at hunting for nursery furniture in Luxembourg, you may be thinking, "where amongst these industrial-looking, roundabout-adjacent strip malls am I to find the perfect bassinet or changing table?" And we imagine there's a good chance you're a combination of tired, elated, and determined to nest, so let’s get cracking.

Studio-Land

This was our first stop when we moved to Luxembourg, with a five-month-old baby in tow and virtually no furniture. Studio-Land is amongst the really excellent group of businesses that are good enough to deliver and assemble 'in-between' furniture while you wait for something like, say, a baby cot to arrive.

It's large, it has virtually everything you need— from bouncers and teething toys to Oeko-tex baby mattresses and bunk beds once they're older. Through word of mouth and our own experience, we've gathered that they boast a reliable, efficient, and friendly home delivery (and assembly) service.

Address:Zone Industrielle Weiergewan, 32 Rue Edmond Reuter, 5326 Contern
Home delivery?: Yes, plus assembly, for an item-dependent fee — just beyond the borders of Luxembourg
Selection/Brands:Quite a lot, including Thule running strollers
Do they do Baby Registries?Yes

Abitare Kids

Every corner you turn in this Junglinster-based outlet holds a different selection of rugs, beds, high-chairs, strollers, and toys. They're the primary stockist for the Flexa brand in Luxembourg, which is helpful if you're seeking longer-term options for children's beds that turn into sofas and the like.

They provide a 'private shopping' experience and suggest that you make an appointment with a shopping advisor before embarking upon their (many) options. And for a bit of trivia: the company is international and can also be found in Spain and Germany — if you ever fancy a bit of nursery shopping abroad.

Address:Centre commercial Langwies, 7 Rue Nicolas Glesener, 6131 Junglinster
Home delivery?:Yes, with a special check-out tool they call the 'no bad surprise' tool - to help calculate the cost of shipping throughout the country
Selection/Brands:It runs the gamut
Do they do Baby registries?Yes

Ikea (Arlon, Belgium)

It's right down the bend in Arlon and, personally, those happiest with their kids' furniture have been my friends who just went to Ikea, picked out what they needed, assembled, and continued on their merry way. It's the nursery equivalent of 'just add water' — albeit with some careful planning regarding trunk space or working from home on Ikea delivery day.

As for Oeko-tex certifications and the use of chemicals in furniture or textiles, the company is fairly explicit about its policiesand the items throughout their baby and children's section include details about safety and EU-standard compliance. An added bonus: the Arlon Ikea website can also now be accessed in English.

Address:
Rue de Grass 100, 6700 Arlon, Belgium
Home delivery?:Yes, and they also have a 'family' program that provides for cheaper delivery if you are looking to receive packages on-the-regular
Selection/Brands:Ikea
Do they do Baby Registries?Yes, in the form of a gift registry

SichelLoft

Perched on the top floor of City Concorde, you may miss Sichel Loft if you're unfamiliar with the stay-and-lunch side of the mall. With a large and well-organised gallery, you'll find a modern selection of options from brands like Quax and Leander and Oliver Furniture.

They also offer harder-to-find 'Scandinavian baby' brands like Camcam Copenhagen, Ferm Living, and Konges Sjold. Plus, a special shoutout to their large selection of Plan Toys, alongside Elhee bottles and Mushie teethers.

When building a nursery or kids' room, every discount helps, so an insider tip would be to go for theirloyalty card, which takes off 5% for accessories and 10% for furniture (excluding Oliver and Liewood brand items).

Address:City Concorde Shopping Centre,80 Rte de Longwy, 8062 Helfent Bertrange
Home delivery?:Free delivery for orders over €1,170, with a 10% assembly fee for baby furniture; additional fees may apply if special lifts are required for narrow-passaged or difficult-to-access spaces
Selection/Brands:Oliver furniture, Bermbach, Nobodinoz, Leander, Quax, Lorena Canals rugs
Do they do Baby Registries?Yes

Möbel Alvisse

Like Kichechef, this is a have-everything store, so there is the bonus of being able to score a spatula or new toaster while you’re visiting, with items to buy for nearly every part of the house.

The nursery and kid's furniture sections are located side-by-sideon the ground floor and off to the right, tucked into a large corner of the store. Thegallery of options is well-configured for ease-of-browsing, with one of the greatest variety of options I saw at any store.

Another benefit: there is a giant soft play area that spans multiple floors in the centre of the building, so it helps to come with two parents or have a plan to bribe your older offspring into joining you at the children’s furniture area.

They do not have a loyalty card but they do provide seasonal discounts for 'Furniture Fest', on customer birthdays, and during the usual summer and January sales.

Address:Am Bann, 1 r. Jean Fischbach - Z.I, 3372 Leudelange
Home delivery?:They deliver everywhere in Luxembourg and 80 km beyond the borders of France, Belgium, and Germany; the price of delivery is included for some of the larger furniture; delivery may take up to 8 weeks for some items
Selection/Brands:Möbel Rudolf, Paidi, Leander, Stokke, Chicco, BabyBjorn, Nuna, Doomoo, Thule, Cybex, Britax, Nonomo Swing, 4Moms MamaRoo, Elvie
Do they do Baby Registries? No, but they do keep customer files on hand and provide discounts on birthdays

Kichechef

Kichechef is the ornament atop Capellen's sprawling business park and it covers all home essentials. Their large nursery section can be found on the ground floor and an even larger selection of children's furniture is tucked away, just past the bed and mattress section, on the second floor. I include these details because the building is enormous.

The nursery area staff are warm and you can make anappointment with a personal shopperin advance. They also provide a 'checklist' of nursery items in a catalogue that soon-to-be parents might find helpful.

Their baby registry provides quite a lot of perks, including a free first delivery and longer-term, 10-20% discounts that cover other items (including furniture) in the larger store. Some nursery items can take 10-12 weeks to deliver, so it may be wise to finalise your order beforethe third trimester.

For parents with older kids, Kichechef also has'Homieland', an in-house playground with caregivers that will look after your children (ages 3 to 12), for free of charge. They also do birthday parties and there's a nice café to park at near the front door.

Address:69 Parc d'Activites Capellen, 8308 Capellen Mamer
Home delivery?:First delivery is free (with a baby registry), delivery and assembly are free in Luxembourg for items over €1,000 (with a possible 'small' additional fee for shipping to nearby countries)

The top floor of the space is dedicated to wellness and Rebozo spa treatment, which aims to support deep relaxation and recovery for new mums. The store also provides 'experience sharing workshops' for expecting parents under the philosophy of 'at the birth of each child, a parent is born'.

They also have a loyalty program that provides €5 credit (online or in-store) for every €100 spent, and a thorough refund policy.

Baby One(Trier, Germany)

Like Ikea, you'll have to travel beyond the Grand Duchy's borders (briefly) for this one. However, it's well-known for its helpful service, an efficient online order-and-pick-up system, and it has an affordability factor that makes the day-trip to Trier worthwhile. They also provide personal shopping supportand suggestions for building a nursery.

If you plan to visit in person, you'll find they have a nursing station and changing room upstairs, with comfy sofas and dim lighting if, say, your baby falls asleep and you'd like to do the same. Upstairs is also where the furniture and larger home-wares can be found. They have an active loyalty program that provides discounts on assembly and delivery, providing points for every item you purchase (with some items 'worth' more points).

Naturwelten Bio & Fair

The tagline for thisBonnevoie outpost is 'organics for babies, kids, pregnancy & sleep' and this is essentially what Naturwelten delivers: high-quality, environmentally-conscious beds and mattresses for children and adults -- alongside anything else you might need as a pregnant person, all the way into your child's primary school years.

The selection is not huge, but carefully cultivated with an ecologically-conscious parent in mind. This is also a great place to go for environmentally-friendly clothing, craft items and body products, from play-doh and seasonal egg-dyes to washing detergents and bath soap. A special shout-out is also in order for their large selection of Hevea pacifiers.

The store also provides baby wearing, nursing, and cloth nappy workshops.

For decorations, bits and bobs, and other individualised items that help give your child or baby's room some flair, these shops are also worth a browse:

Domino
This is a must-know location for any new parent or anyone looking for gifts for children. And while the selection of toys is monumental, it's worth a gander at the additional floors specialising in home and decoration.

Unicorner Concept Store
Not just for decorative items, this Walferdange-based store is also a hub for creating parties for big and little kids alike, with a helium balloon service and endless paper decorations. Much of this 'party stuff' is well-made and some items we've bought from the store have somehow become permanent items in our home. They also carry shoes through their partner store (Mint Mouse).

Online options

If you're feeling a bit more couch-bound, there is a surprising array of affordable or free shipping options throughonline venuesthroughout Europe. Only our absolute favourites – tried and tested by editors at RTL -- are included here.

Finnish Design Shop

This online retailer continues to be a go-to for us in terms of terrace furniture and stylish bits and bobs, but they also have larger, more practical furniture for children and adults from brands like Ferm Living, Lundia, and Hay.

Their selection of lamps (not unimportant in Luxembourg!) has helped us add a bit of personality and they have a nice selection of portable lamps that our child uses as a night-light on occasion. Keep an eye out for their sales campaigns, there is usually always something worthwhile going on. Also, as of the writing of this article, they provide free shipping for purchases over €150.

Manine Montessori

Based out of Belgium, this small business ships for free to Luxembourg for any purchase over €150. You'll find floor beds, toddler-friendly wardrobes, small sink stations and really anything fileable under 'at-home Montessori arsenal'. You'll need to assemble everything yourself, but the materials are high-quality and on the more affordable side of the Montessori furniture spectrum, and kids seem to love their stuff.

Smallable

This Paris-based retailer ships to Luxembourg and describes itself as a 'Family Concept Store'. Despite their name, the company's selection is sizeable and varies from every day staples to fairly high-end designer wares.

Their children's furniture section is more extensive than other retailers that ship from outside the Grand Duchy — and it includes similar brands to Abitare Kids. However, it's not a bad idea to plan early when using this option, as they are very honest about their delivery times (sometimes 4-6 weeks) and, anecdotally, are very good about sticking to these dates.

Second-hand options in Luxembourg

It's not always necessary to buy brand-new things, even for a brand-new human, and there's a bevy of opportunities to find really lovely second-hand furniture and baby items in Luxembourg.

The most frequented option isKid's Corner Luxembourg on Facebook, which has existed for almost a decade and has over 10K. It maintains a strict policy about removing items (or members) who post items not related to children or maternity.

Another option, which may require a bit more perusing because it's not limited to nursery or children's items, isSell, give, exchange; 2nd hand in Luxembourg. Here you'll find over 47K members who would like to simply give you their things. There is also the smallerSell & Buy in Luxembourg, but this will again run the gamut from watches to grandma's wardrobe.

Communes also provide frequent community sales, so it helps to keep an eye out for your neighbourhood newsletter to see if your village or city (or somewhere nearby) might have a children's focused sale just around the bend.

Missed anything?

Yes, we know, this list is positively ginormous! However, there's always a chance we've missed an absolute gem, and we'd love to hear from you if you have any suggestions or tips! Let us know through Facebook, comment below,or send an e-mail to contenttoday@rtl.lu, and we're happy to take a second (or first) look.

Happy nesting!
